Sub Zero

Sub Zero began with Derek Laxton's idea for technical thermal underwear, which came to him on a cold, wet climb of Helvellyn in the Lake District in 1967. He had a background in mechanical engineering and wanted to run his own company, and in 1969 Sub Zero Technology Ltd was created. Its thermal base layers started at the company's original textile mill in Leicester; heavier thermal mid layers followed, along with seamless knitting and body mapping. Still family owned, it is run by the third generation of Laxtons, based in Fleckney with its factory and offices in rural Leicestershire.

Shown here are long-sleeve thermal tops and women's leggings from Sub Zero's Factor 1 and Factor 2 lines, each listed on its product page as made in Great Britain. We've checked only these pieces, not the rest of Sub Zero's clothing.

Where they're made
Leicestershire
The thermal layers shown here are listed as made in Great Britain. Sub Zero is based in Fleckney, with a factory in rural Leicestershire. Where it can't make something itself, it says it tries to source it within Britain.
Made in Britain — how we know
In October 2026 we read the product page for each piece shown; each gives Great Britain as where it's made. We also read Sub Zero's About page, which places the family firm in Fleckney and its factory in rural Leicestershire.
