Yard-O-Led

The Yard-O-Led workshop, from the brand's workshop page

Yard-O-Led traces the propelling pencil back to Sampson Mordan's patent of 1822, and the company itself to 1934. After the Second World War it set up new premises in Birmingham, and it has stayed in the city ever since. A small group of craftsmen assembles and decorates every writing instrument by hand, and some of them have been with the company for more than fifty years. Its silver pieces are hallmarked and individually numbered, and are described as still handmade in England.

Home office

Shown here are the Diplomat Barley and Perfecta Victorian propelling pencils, the hexagonal Diplomat Plain Ballpen, a design from 1934, and the Viceroy Standard Victorian Fountain Pen with its hand-applied pattern, all in sterling silver.

Only its silver writing instruments are covered. Yard-O-Led's notebooks, paper, ink and refills may be made elsewhere.
