Bradford Sock Company
The Bradford Sock Company works from one of Bradford's oldest surviving mills, a building almost 200 years old that once belonged to Sir Titus Salt. One room is given over to sock making, fitted with new knitting machines. The company designs its own socks and makes them there, running a few dozen pairs in one colour combination before moving on to the next. Yarn arrives on cones, and special colours go out to dyers in and around Bradford. Once knitted, each pair is washed on a gentle cycle, pressed while still damp on foot-shaped irons, then banded and bagged. The business is run by Edward Hill & Co Ltd.
